A National Intelligence Option On Iran's Nuclear Situation.
“Should the United States of America consider the option of a nuclear strike against the nation of Iran?”
Dear Mr. President,
Over the past several years there has been compelling evidence showing that Iran is attempting to build nuclear weaponry. For the past 18 years Iran has kept their enrichment program a secret. This hidden enrichment program can be used to enrich uranium levels to the correct level for nuclear power. The program could also be used to to enrich the levels high enough for a nuclear explosion. Although Iran currently is under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), they simply will not agree to work under the strictest conditions.
At one point there was also suspicion that North Korea helped Syria build a secret nuclear reactor which destroyed in an Israeli air raid last year. The rumor has it that the development was not for peaceful purposes. Egypt has recently announced plans to build a number of nuclear power stations to generate electricity. Cairo's original plans to pursue nuclear weapons were abandoned in the 1980s when the country ratified the NPT. It has since led calls for a Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction. Jordan's, King Abdullah last year announced that they plan to develop its first nuclear power plant by the year 2015 . They said for the use of electricity and desalination. With all of the other nuclear programs going on a bad working on in Iran would cause major problems.
We have also currently gotten information that Iran is enriching uranium at this time. However as this can be (and is) a problem, As a CIA agent I believe that a nuclear strike is the wrong option. this is because they have only two enriching facilitations. This is not as much of a problem as some other countries. We need to focus on our other problems, and not get ourselves stuck in a nuclear war. The problem with striking with a nuclear bomb is the fact that the united states will be Nuking another country, this is not what america is about. This will result in indirect killing of many women and children. America's persona will drop because we don't want to be the country that has used the bomb not twice, but three times. Also the cities in Iran using these facilities (Qom, and Nataz) are have the capabilities to enrich Uranium to the point that it can be used for nuclear devices.
There are many concerns with Iran having the capability of launching missiles, especially combined with the possibility of Iran developing nuclear weaponry. Currently, the longest range missile which Iran possesses is called the “SHAHAB-3”. This missile was first launched in July of 2008 and has the capability to launch up to 807 miles away. Recently, rumors have risen stating that there is a modified version of this missile which may be called the “SHAHAB-3b, which has the reaching capability of around 1500 miles. Two other missiles which are in Iran's possession are the are the “SAJJIL-1” and the “SAJJIL-2”. These missiles have the ability to launch up to 1,240 miles and have a more accurate delivery.
The possibility of Iran developing nuclear weaponry is high, at this moment there is not enough evidence. Currently, the United States is already involved in a war which has depleted many funds. If Iran were to give its notice stating that it would be leaving the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty then there would be enough evidence showing that Iran is developing nuclear weapons. In addition to this, the idea of nuking Iran would be insignificant because a lot of innocent lives would be lost. There are many countries which do not agree with the decisions which Iran has made but nuking would be a lost cause and cause unneeded arguments. The idea of having a nuclear strike against Iran at this moment in time would be unacceptable. Sincerely,The National Security Counsil
